This article describes how to update drivers for an HP printer. Drivers are the software applications that establish communication between a computer and a hardware device, such as a printer. With driver updates, you can get the most out of your HP printer by improving its efficiency and print quality, while also resolving the most common problems that can occur due to regular or irregular usage.
Although the driver update procedure is simple, you may be stumbling over issues that may require you to search for HP help options. The guide below will help you complete the process without the help of HP itself.
Turn on your computer (if you have not done so yet) and open your Internet browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer, etc. Go to the official HP website (HP.com) and navigate to the Support & Drivers section (at the top of the screen).
Type the name or number of your product, such as the LaserJet 1100, in the blank field, and then click the Search button. If you do not know anything about your product, click the How do I find my product name / number? Link below the blank field. A list of all HP products will be displayed. Select your product by clicking on the appropriate link. You will then see the graphical instructions to find the product name or product number.
Once you have found the name or number, go back to the Support & Drivers section and enter it in the box you want. Click on the Search button and the different versions of the respective product will be displayed. One of them can be chosen as desired. The versions will only be displayed if you have not entered the full model number of your product. Take the example of the LaserJet 1100. If you have only entered LaserJet 1100 in the search box, it will display the series of all versions, such as XI, SE, and so on.
When you are done, you will be redirected to another page. Make the language selection by clicking on the drop down menu below. Choose your software / driver language. Select your Windows operating system by clicking on the desired link under the heading Select Operating System.
Under the heading Useful links you can click to check one of these optional links. Automatically check if your drivers need to be updated (MS Windows x ..), Select the correct printer driver, or These downloads are available to customers in accordance with the terms of the HP Software License Agreement. When you select the first link, it automatically determines if your printer drivers need updating or not.
The second link will inform you about selecting and downloading the correct, compatible drivers for your device. The third link explains the license and terms and conditions for different customer types. If you do not want to go through all these links, skip the Useful links section. See Operating System: Microsoft Windows v.Section.
You see two links viz. Applications and drivers under Quick Jump to Downloads by Category under Language Selection. If you do not want to download an application for your printer, go to the Drivers section. The available drivers are displayed with the current version, the file size and the estimated download time details. Click on the download button next to each driver and start the download.
When prompted, click the Save button to save the file. Select Desktop or Download folder as the location. Navigate to the location and open the file to initiate the setup. Follow the instructions and complete the procedure. Restart your computer to save the changes when prompted. If more driver downloads are available, repeat the above procedure.
If you encounter problems such as incomplete printing or slow printing, and so on, you may not have installed a compatible compatible driver for your printer. To resolve the issue, you can perform an online diagnostic test using the HP Printer Check Tool. Go to the HP Business Support Center and navigate to the self-help services link, then click the driver auto-validation section to begin the review. The online tool will then check if you are using a compatible, correct printer driver. It will also advise you to update the driver if you have not already done so. It will also say that your current drivers are updated or not.
